Twelve years later...

It feels like my last post was a life time ago and in some ways that is probably true.  The years in between have been wonderful.  Full of new experiences, trips and lots of new family members.  The most exciting events have been welcoming our new grandchildren as they have joined the family and watching the older ones grow up and begin their lives as independant adults, attending college, going on church missions and making a positive impact on the world.  I couldn't be prouder of them and all that they have already accomplishsed.

That being said, my new life is very different from the old one.  I suppose that is probably true for all of us as life passes by.  The most significant change is I'm now an empty nester and sadly also a widow.  Not a club anyone would willingly join but here I am none the less.  Over the years I have watched cancer take the lives of so many of my friends and loved ones and it is heartbreaking to see the devestation it leaves in it's wake.  It can strike without notice and completely catch you off guard.  It hits so hard that it takes your breath away and leaves you feeling uncertain if you'll ever be able to breathe again.  I suppose what I have learned from this is that you need to appreciate every moment and every day that you have with those you love and care about.  Life is uncertain so don't take it for granted because you never know what moment might be your last.  It's not all doom and gloom though.  I believe that I will see my loved ones again and I can't wait for that  glorius day when we will be reunited.  I can assure you that death is not the end.  It's just another step towards our eternal progression.  So don't despair if you too have lost someone you love.  It will all be made right in the end.
